3 Reasons Why Connecting With Your Body Is Important

We live in an achievement-based culture that really values the logical mind, work, and busyness. While there is most definitely a time and a place for these things, overdoing it in these areas can cause us to disconnect with our bodies. Over time, this can lead to many issues that could have a long-term effect on our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. Here are three reasons why connecting with your body is important:

Reason #1: When we are disconnected from our bodies, we’re more likely to manifest health issues – When we are in our heads, our energy is focused in the higher chakras. These are the chakras that have to do with our intuition, mental body, communication, and our spiritual connection. While spending time there is the key to a balanced life, when we spend all our time there, we end up losing our connection with our physical body. This can lead to weight gain (so we can subconsciously feel more grounded), losing touch with what foods our body needs, and being unable to hear our body’s whispers of what’s wrong in the form of aches and pains. When we don’t hear the whispers, they start to become shouts. This is when the major health issues begin manifesting.

For instance, for years I didn’t realize how much I was “pushing through”. At first, the only side effect of “pushing through” was feeling wired (this was my adrenals overproducing cortisol). It was actually a benefit, because I could get more done. But over time, I began to constantly feel exhausted. This exhaustion was a sign that I needed more rest, but I ignored it. Instead of readjusting my lifestyle so I could get more rest, I began drinking caffeinated beverages to compensate for my lack of energy. A couple years went by and I needed more and more caffeine just to get by. I began realizing that caffeine was having a negative impact on my body, but decided to “push through” until I could deal with it at some better time. The stress in my life hit a tipping point and I ended up crashing. Between the stress I was putting on my body from pushing it so much and drinking caffeine, my muscles began to catabolize. By the time I started listening to what my body was trying to tell me, it had completely crashed. As a result, it took much longer to repair than if I would have listened to the original whispers years prior. If I wasn’t so disconnected from my body, I would have heard this whispers much more easily and probably would have done something about it sooner.

Reason #2: When we disconnect from our bodies, we can’t feel our intuitive guidance as strongly – Your body is constantly communicating with you, but you can’t hear her if you are disconnected from her. As I have written about in past articles, empaths’ primary way of accessing their intuition is through their feelings. If you aren’t connected to your body, you are not as likely to be able to feel the messages she is sending you through your feelings. When you have access to these messages, you will be able to be more aligned with your soul and its path. When you don’t, you’ll be more likely to get out of alignment and have to correct yourself later. Trust me, you’ll save tons of time when it comes to your life purpose if you take the time now to connect with your life purpose.

Reason #3: Being ungrounded/disconnected from our bodies leaves us susceptible to other people’s energy leaking into ours – You know how you always hear how we are all “one” and connected…it’s true! On a spiritual level, our energy is connected to everyone else’s. This is lovely on the spiritual plane, but when we are having our human experience, it can lead to great discomfort. It can lead to other people’s anxiety, stress, fear, etc. leaking into our energy fields. When we are spending time primarily in our higher chakras and not in our physical bodies, we leave ourselves susceptible to blending our energy with other people’s. I was experiencing this my whole life and never even realized it until I was 23! I had been feeling other people’s emotions and mistaking them for my own. This is much more likely to occur when we aren’t grounded/connected to our bodies.

I hope these three reasons have given you some motivation to reconnect with your body. Now over to you…do you feel like you are disconnected from your body? Have you realized it before or are you just realizing it now? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below 🙂
